Brigitte Spiegeler LL.M.

Partner and founder of Spiegeler International Attorneys-at-Law & Mediators. She is an attorney-at-law in the Netherlands and France and also a visual artist, having graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. In addition, she is also an International Business Mediator.

Brigitte Spiegeler is an attorney-at-law in the Netherlands and France.

Brigitte has extensive experience in providing legal services to companies, non-profit organisations and government bodies, and previously worked as a senior policy officer for Intellectual Property at the Ministry of Economic Affairs. She is co-author of various publications on intellectual property and combines her legal expertise with an international background.

In addition to her work as an attorney, Brigitte is also a qualified (international) business mediator. In this role, she assists parties in resolving business conflicts in a professional and neutral manner, without the intervention of the courts. Her legal expertise, combined with her mediation skills, ensures exceptional efficiency in resolving complex international disputes, where cultural and language differences often play a role.

Brigitte’s educational background includes: University of Amsterdam Dutch Law and European Studies (1995); in 1992, she studied French law at the Université Pierre Mendès France II in Grenoble; scholarship from the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD) to participate in an exchange programme in Germany at the University of Tübingen and the Court of Appeal in Düsseldorf.

She speaks Dutch, English, French, German and Spanish.

Eline Cremers LL.M.

Eline obtained her Master’s degree in Law, specialising in Internet, Intellectual Property and ICT, from VU University Amsterdam in 2021. During her studies, Eline completed various internships at law firms and worked at the Central Processing Office of the Public Prosecution Service.

Eline has been working at Spiegeler International Attorneys-at-Law & Mediators since September 2022 and was sworn in at the District Court of The Hague in June 2023. Eline focuses on intellectual property law.

She is also involved in various committees at the Young Bar Association (The Hague). From 2023 to 2024, she was part of the activities committee of the Young Bar Association The Hague, and since the end of 2024, she has been active in the Lawyers4Lawyers committee. In addition, this year she is also a member of the Congress Committee of the national Young Bar Association.

Kim Goudzwaard

International Business Manager

Since 2021, Kim has been an essential part of Spiegeler International Attorneys-at-Law & Mediators. With dedication and expertise, she provides legal support to our international clients and ensures that all office operations run smoothly. Known as the office “fixer,” Kim turns challenges into solutions with efficiency and precision. Her strong language skills in Dutch, English, German, and French allow her to communicate with clients across borders, making them feel at ease and well supported.

 

 

 

Mathijs van Riet LL.M.

Mathijs van Riet graduated in 2019 from Maastricht University’s Law School. During his studies, Mathijs specialised in national and international private law, contract law, corporate law, liability law, and financial securities.

In 2020, Mathijs was admitted to the Bar of Amsterdam. He has worked at several international law firms. Mathijs focused on national and international commercial disputes, particularly in contract law, corporate law, liability law, and arbitration. He also worked for nearly a year from a law firm in Brussels. Since the end of 2024, Mathijs has been a member of the Bar of The Hague and of Spiegeler International Attorneys-at-Law & Mediators. Mathijs practices in both national and international litigation, advising and representing clients in various matters of contract law, corporate law, and liability law.

Mathijs is also active in various board functions of the young bar associations. He currently holds the position of Secretary of the European Young Bar Association. In this role, Mathijs liaises with bar associations worldwide and with the Council of Europe. Previously, Mathijs was President of the Dutch Young Bar and a board member of the Amsterdam Young Bar.

Mathijs speaks Dutch, German, English, and French. Mathijs practices mostly from our office in Lille at 4 Rue des Cannoniers.

Samy Akeb LL.M.

Samy is an attorney specialised in civil law, with particular expertise in corporate law, commercial disputes and (international) arbitration. He advises and litigates on behalf of national and international companies and supports clients with complex contractual and corporate legal matters.

He obtained his LL.M. in European Business Law at Radboud University Nijmegen and completed additional courses within the LL.M. Corporate Law program. During his studies, he participated in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna — one of the world’s leading international advocacy competitions in the field of commercial arbitration. Several years later — alongside his work as an attorney — he returned to Radboud University Nijmegen, where he served as a guest lecturer and coach, preparing a new team of master’s students for the 2024 Willem C. Vis Moot.

Before joining Spiegeler International Attorneys-at-Law & Mediators, he worked at a renowned boutique firm in Amsterdam focusing on transactions, M&A and restructurings, followed by a position as an attorney at a large international law firm in Eindhoven and Amsterdam. During this time, he also completed a secondment at the firm’s office in Paris. This broad experience forms the foundation of his legal acumen, strategic insight and pragmatic approach.
